Veterinary Pet Insurance

Veterinary Pet Insurance

Many of us have pets at home that we love and who are a part of the family.  Pets are great company and are known to reduce our stress levels.   Do you have veterinary pet insurance policies in place for your beloved pets – If not then maybe you should consider doing so.  there are some great reasons and benefits for taking out pet insurance on your furry, scaley or feathered friends.

Who Offers veterinary Pet Insurance?

There are a number of companies who provide veterinary pet insurance such as VPI who offer a wide range of pet insurance policies.  Before taking out insurance on your animal friend, you may want to discuss this with your vet to gget a good idea on who they would recommend as the insurer, as well as gaining some advice on what type of insurance you should take out depending on what type of animal you are thinking of insuring.  This is particularly useful if your pet has been to the vet on occaision and because the vet will have a file on your animal so they know what they are talking about.

You should also be able to find some brochures at your vets surgery that gives you a better idea about the types of insuurance policies are available to you.  You may also find that your Vet is a registered member of a pet insurance scheme, and if that is the case, then it would be the best idea to go with that insurer as it will make the paper work and your claim much easier to complete.  While you are there, it would also be a good time to discuss have a computer chip implanted in your animal so that you can find them more easily in the event that they get lost or stolen.

What Type Of Pets Will Veterinary Pet Insurance Cover?

Generally, most providers of veterinary pet insurance will cover up to 80% of the vets bill for dogs and cats, as these are the most owned pets in America.  If you are wanting to insure other types of pets such as horses, there are providers who do carry this type of insurance.  If you have a more exotic animal, then it may be more difficult to find an insurer and if you cannot find an insurer, there is always another way to deal with this.

With veterinary pet insurance, you pay premiums on a regular basis.  If you cannot find an veterinary pet insurance for your pet, then I recomend that you regularly put aside some funds foer the day when you do have to take your animal friend to the vet.  This way you should have most, if not all of the money to cover the vets bills rather than relying on veterinary pet insurance.
